Types of Keychain Items

A keychain (also called key ring or key fob) is usually a small brass or steel ring or pin that has several small keys securely attached. Typically, the length of a keychain will allow an item to be held much easier than if it were attached directly to a larger key ring. Keys on a keychain can rotate freely, allowing one or both of its ends to rotate freely so that the object being held is kept secure. Many keychain items have various uses, from flashlights to flash drives to jewelry, and each item will have a different use as well as its own unique design.

The most common type of keychain will be used simply for its practicality. These are often made of plastic with a hook on the end that allows the owner to simply clip it on a keychain, or a purse strap, or even on a belt. A plastic or metal keychain is commonly used by those who do not want their name to be printed on their clothing. A metal keychain is commonly used as a promotional item by those who have a large amount of promotional items that they want to promote. A combination of a plastic and metal keychain is also commonly used as a gift to those who are active in political activism, such as environmentalists, tea party members, and certain advocacy groups.

Other types of keychain items include those that have small loops that allow one to wear them on a necklace, bracelet, earring, or even on a toe. A popular fashion item for those who are wearing name necklaces is a keychain necklace. Some keychain items are circular, and others are in shapes other than circular. Some keychain designs are square or rectangular in shape, while other key chains are in more abstract shapes.
