While many enthusiastic fools and revelers enthusiastically follow Shrove Monday parades and dress up to celebrate the festival, known locally as Carnival, Fastnacht or Mardi Gras, for many dedicated fools it is more than just a side trip to a few days of celebration and revelry . Members of carnival associations are passionate about the festival, in which internal formalities play a major role. This includes the carnival or carnival order, which is traditionally awarded during the pompous session of the Eleven Council.

The History of the Order

Even today, however, many orders contain humorous and sometimes mocking motifs in order to do justice to the carnival flair. In early times important historical events were depicted on the carnival orders, including local history, buildings and politics. Personalities from carnival, politics and church were also given a special place on the various orders. Then as now, the message of the carnival orders oscillates between graphic statement, mockery and significant homage.

Special Orders

An even greater honor and far more significant carnival order is the Special Order, which is awarded once each year. A selected personality receives this carnival medal, whereby the requirements must be met to a particular extent. The award ceremony takes place in the course of an elaborate ceremony that is tantamount to an act of state.

Despite the honor that comes with the Orders, few members purposefully aspire to them. Carnival people are often very passionate about their hobby and spend a lot of time on it.
